Poronui Ranch

New Zealand evokes images of enormous brown and rainbow trout, and stirs deep rooted emotions in those who have been there and desire in those ready to make the trek. Over the years, we have been fortunate enough to spend many months exploring the North and South Islands of this amazing country. Because the number of lodges can be daunting, we have decided to focus on a few of our favorites.

Poronui Ranch is located on the North Island.  The individual cabins, the wine cellar, the stables, and the food all come together to create perfect harmony. Anglers have the option of helicopter fishing, staying in a remote safari camp, or nesting in the main lodge.  The property has some of the best private water available to guests of any lodge we've fished worldwide.  Full week stays are available along with partial week stays, combining fishing with another lodge.

Nokomai Station

The South Island boasts Nokomai Station, located near the brown trout capital of the world, Gore. Nokomai allows anglers the freedom to come and go as they choose and similar to Poronui, it allows for access to amazing private water.  The location of this station gives guests the opportunity to explore over eight miles of the Nokomai River winding through the property.  The ranch also has a full service helicopter available for even more remote access. The one- and two- bedroom cottage options include kitchenettes for those wanting to cook thier own meals, although, we could not recommend chef Ann Hore's delectable cuisine any more highly.

DoubleHaul Travel is also able to assist with DIY (do it yourself) anglers looking to explore the islands on their own; aiding in hostel locations, the most enticing rivers, and the perfect RV or 4WD to get you there.
