Villa Maria Lodge
Villa Maria Lodge
In Argentina, they have an expression "buena gente" which translated means '"good people". The folks at Villa Maria typify this expression; from the moment you arrive they make you feel like family. The staff has mastered the Argentine art of hospitality where they focus on the details that matter - exquisite food and libations, exceedingly comfortable accommodations, real world burning fires (they don't call it Tierra del Fuego for nothing!), grilled streamside lunches, relaxing "siestas" and genuine laughter after a day of fishing. The appeal of the program has to do with the true authenticity of the experience. Villa Maria is a real 100+-year-old working cattle estancia and guests become part of a real working operation for a week. Passing gauchos, sheep and cattle on the way to and from the river is par for the course. These fish are one of a kind brutes that live at the end of the earth. There is no stronger pull or more dogged fight known to a member of the trout family- we are talking about the biggest brown trout in the world, and they behave accordingly. Weather is in a violent league of its own as conditions typically change by the minute. Guests earn every fish the old fashion way - through listening to their knowledgeable guide, repeatedly placing the fly in the right spot, mending like it's religion and awaiting the proverbial big pull. Imagine casting and hitching your fly to Santa's sleigh and, well, you get the image.
This amazing piece of property is located within one of the most historic estancias in all of Patagonia.
