Belize Mothership
Belize Mothership Excursions
One of the world’s best flats fishing destinations lies directly beneath the southern most tip of Mexico. That destination is Belize. Belize is buffered by the world’s second longest barrier reef, roaming the coastline inside the reef is the mothership Rising Tide. Rising Tide is an immaculate 58 foot Hatteras motoryacht that serves as a floating basecamp for fishing what is arguably the best permit grounds in the world. Fishing from 23 foot Pangas, fisherman comb the flats with guides Dean Myers and Noel Westby in search of tarpon, bonefish, snook, barracuda, and the elusive permit. Most of the fishing is done poling the flats with some wade fishing in selected areas.
The Rising Tide has three staterooms that can accommodate up to six anglers. A typical day begins at 6am with fishing until 9am when it is time to return to the mothership for a hearty breakfast. After a short breakfast, it is back to the flats to take advantage of the mid-morning sun to hunt for permit, bonefish, and tarpon. At 2pm it is time to return to the mothership for lunch and a short break from the midday sun. After lunch (even possilby a short nap) it is time to fish until dark, taking full advantage of a fishing day and the early evening movement of tarpon. Then it is back to the mothership for a shower, rum drinks, and a hearty Belize dinner including lobster or fresh caught snook. This is a trip designed for people who love to fish hard. But for the occasional client that is not that hard core, a day off to snorkle the world’s longest barrier reef can be arranged or just relax on the aftdeck with a rum drink and a cigar. You control the agenda because it’s your trip.
Belize is a short two to three hour flight from both Houston and Miami. Belize is the only English speaking country in Central America. There is a good reason that Belize has become one of the hottest destinations in the fly fishing world. Fantastic year round weather, picturesque scenery, and world class fishing at a reasonable price make this a destination that you will find yourself returning to year after year.
